Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI)
Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) is an enhanced version of Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) which was launched in 2012 for issuance of pan-India FSSAI Licenses and Registration. It had evolved incrementally and organically with changing regulatory needs. The technology on which it was built was outdated with technical support no longer available. Over years users complained of slow speed of FLRS and software experts resisted new changes on FLRS thus impeding any further improvement, expansion and innovation in the licensing system. Thus the migration from FLRS to FoSCoS was imperative
FSSAI had earlier implemented a Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) – an online application to provide licensing and registration functionality. FLRS application enabled the process for FBOs to submit registration/ license applications related to all food businesses and further supported the processing of these applications by the Central/ State licensing authorities. FLRS has been in place from past 9 years. Over the years multiple enhancements and modifications have been done to enhance the usability of application. Having observed certain performance challenges and business process limitations in FLRS, FSSAI recognized the need for an upgrade which led to development of a new application – Food Safety and Compliance System (FoSCoS). During development of FoSCoS, care has been taken to ensure that most of it is similar to FLRS application in functionality and process flows to the extent possible while making it more user friendly and also improving its system performance. FoSCoS is built on open source platform, has a new and advanced User Interface, is intuitive, computationally powerful and technically superior to FLRS.

FOOD SAFETY DISPLAY BOARDS
As per the FSS Regulation, there is a mandatory requirement of displaying FSSAI License/Registration Number at food premises. Usually, the FSSAI license number is not visible to the consumers. Thus, to change the overall consumer perceptibility and to strengthen food safety, FSSAI has introduced Food Safety Display Boards (FSDBs) for various food businesses. Henceforth, in addition to the existing mandatory requirement of displaying FSSAI License/ Registration Number, it will also be mandatory (in a phased manner) for FBOs to display these Food Safety Display Boards at FBO premises.

Food Safety Display Boards are informative board which primarily display food safety and hygiene practices to be followed by FBO in their establishment. The FSDBs are colour coded for different kind of food businesses for ease of recognition by the consumers. The color designation as per kind of business is as follows given in pictuer.
- Food Safety and Hygiene Requirements – Inform the consumers, the food handlers and the regulatory staff about these important requirements,
- thus getting 360 degree assurance on food safety.
- An effective consumer feedback system that provides various options to consumers for sending feedback through WhatsApp,
SMS or give feedback on FSSAI App.
